New webinar revolving around ‘Behaviour that Challenges Care’

This is being held on Tuesday 29th of July at 2:00pm where Melanie Furness will present this virtual event.

The duration will be around 1 hour with the inclusion of a Q & A at the end.

 

Summary of webinar contents                                                                                                           

Behaviour that Challenges Care is common for all health and social care organisations. This webinar will identify which client groups are more predisposed in exhibiting behaviours that challenge care.

It will provide examples of non-verbal, verbal and physical behaviours challenging provision of care. Paratonia is something few professionals are aware of, and this session will introduce the term and how we can reduce impact when delivering person centred care.

The webinar will provide examples of when to use a behavioural evidence tool and some practical guidance for reducing behaviour challenging care.

 

Learning Objectives

Be able to identify the different client groups that may experience behaviour that challenges care

Identify non verbal , verbal and physical behaviours

Introduction of a behaviour evidence tool to support clinical justifications and equipment prescriptions

 

Speaker Bio
Mel Furness is a Registered General Nurse, currently working as a Moving and Handling Team Manager for Norfolk County Council.  With over 20 years’ experience in moving and handling practice, she provides advice and support to patients with complex needs, specialising in dementia care, combative behaviours, care of the plus size person and optimised handling solutions.

Mel completed her MSc in Back Care Management at Loughborough University in 2008 and is a member of the Loughborough Alumni Research Forum.  Mel has been a member of National Back Exchange for 21 years and is co-author of the Handling of People 6th Edition and NBE publication, Dementia Care: A Behavioural Approach to Moving and Handling. She is also currently Managing Editor for Column.

 

Mel is a Medallist of the Order of the British Empire, (BEM) for services to the community and charity fundraising, (Queen's New Year Honours 2022).

Mel is a Queens Nurse – awarded 2024.
