Transferring from Lying to Standing Effortlessly - column digital
January 12, 2026
Mary (not her real name) is a 76-year-old lady who lives with her husband (we’ll call him Martin) who is
her main carer. Mary was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease (PD) in July 2022, but noticed symptoms
of PD, including a deterioration in her mobility, a couple of years prior to her diagnosis. This case study
highlights the difficulties Mary has experienced with bed transfers, outlines the different options her
occupational therapist (OT) tried before introducing the Ascenda and demonstrates the positive impact
this had on the lives of Mary and her husband.
The full case study can be accessed in our member-exclusive journal column digital.
