  NBE NATIONAL CHAIR

Julia Love

RGN ONC, Registered Member NBE

I am an Independent manual handling advisor providing support and training within a wide range of health, social care and educational settings.  I am also a director of LPS Training & Consultancy Ltd, a company based in the North of England, offering support and information to organisations involved in people handling, on risk management systems, equipment and training.

One of my main roles and one that I find incredibly challenging and rewarding, is to carry out individual complex risk assessments and bespoke training for the carers of adults and children in their own homes, with handling needs that can never be described as straight forward.

I deliver Facilitator training courses with my partner Simon, which have been adapted for a number of institutions and organisations, including for University lecturers, PCT’s, Acute NHS Trusts, Social Services, Special Schools and Private Hospitals.

I have been asked to be a speaker at the Disabled Living Foundation and the National Back Exchange conferences and have a special interest in competency assessment.  I have also been a consultant for Oxford hoists and as part of a professional team, developed training material and assessment tools.   I was incredibly fortunate to be asked to be a co-editor for The Handling of People, 6th Edition.  I learnt such a great deal during this process as well as the process of writing a practical chapter – very different to talking about it in a training room.

I was really proud when I was awarded my NBE Registered Member status and feel it has helped me to maintain my standards, be recognized for the experience I have gained over the years, and reminded me that there is always more to learn.

NBE has been an important part of my life since coming into this profession and I have been an active member for a number of years, having been on the committee and then Chair of my Local group, Yorkshire from 2004-2008.  I was really honoured to be asked to join the Executive committee and loved the job as Regional Officer.  It’s been a steep learning curve, taking on Secretary, and Claire Mowbray’s high standards have been a tough act to follow.  I feel the role of Chair will be even steeper and I know I will be able to rely on the support of colleagues and friends in NBE.
