Why Should You Attend
Below are just a few testimonials from Conference 2006 :-
"I was fortunate enough to receive sponsorship from my company to attend this year’s conference. After a very long flight and a sharp reminder of the joys of driving on the M6, I arrived in Telford looking forward to absorbing as much information as possible.
There were 4 key outcome measures for this trip –
1. Compare ACC’s health safer industry programme with activity occurring worldwide.
2. Gain a broader understanding of key risk factors and injury prevention methods in bariatric care. Use this information to raise awareness of issue with key stakeholders and provide possible working solutions to problems they may face.
3. Gain a stronger understanding of current research, in particular surrounding patient handling training programmes, competencies and bariatric care and how they could be applied in New Zealand to support the Patient Handling Guidelines.
4. Create links with key partners that can be maintained for future benefit, particularly getting ACC’s work in the health safer industry recognised as international best practice.
I am pleased to say I achieved all of the above and was quite overwhelmed with the sheer amount of information that was available, and the knowledge and experience of so many people who were willing to share what they could. It looks like what we have over here in New Zealand is up there with international best practice; however we still have the problem of programmes not being implemented fully and good practice not being followed or enforced. However, good practice in patient handling is gaining momentum here which is fantastic and with the knowledge gained at the conference we will be able to continue to evolve our programmes and make further achievements in injury prevention.
Big thanks to the NBE and all the members who took time to speak to me or host a visit on my tour of the country. I enjoyed every minute and am now wondering what to do next.
Incidentally, with reference to Margaret Hanson's presentation on "Models of best practice for cost effective active case management and rehabilitation for those with MSDs" – this is standard practice here in NZ and has been for over 30 years! We are always looking for more Case Managers, so if any of you would like a change of scenery, you know where to come!! Perhaps this could be another opportunity for the UK and New Zealand to share information and achieve better outcomes for those who have been injured?"
See you all next year hopefully,
Sandra Nelson

"Once again, the 2006 conference was a stimulating event, with a wide range of topics covered, new equipment to try out and a chance to network with colleagues old and new. The new venue has allowed the conference to grow and I look forward to next years. I would recommend this event to all manual handling trainers and advisors working in or providing services to health or social care organisations as the best way of ensuring their CPD."

"The topics presented by the speakers for the plenary sessions at the National Back Exchange Conference were interesting. The concurrent sessions included numerous diverse topics, which was applicable to all delegates. The sessions I attended were interesting, stimulating, motivating, and entertaining on occasions. The evening dinner and dance was well organised and the food and entertainment enjoyable, a good opportunity to socialise. As usual the networking was invaluable, and the exhibitors were more accessible to delegates, due to the larger venue. A conference well worth attending."

Back Care Specialist Nurse Manager,

Call for Papers
The working focus for conference 2009 is "The Key to International Success" and abstracts will need to refer to evidence based practice and offer practical solutions to manage the challenge of working in specific areas of people and inanimate load management handling practice.
In addition to research based presentations, we would like to have a "back to basics" element; feedback from previous conferences is that delegate's gain most from the sessions where they are interactive and practical using case studies, problem solving and discussion
The call for papers will be circulated to associated professional and academic bodies as well National Back Exchange members to encourage the sharing of information and the development of practical handling solutions in this complex area of practice.
